Jack O'
Lantern cake pans come in all shapes and sizes and can be found
everywhere during the Halloween season! There
are so many
types of pans, in all sizes from mini Jack O' Lantern cakes to medium to
fairly large and are available at most craft stores and mass market
retailers. We've collected quite a few over the years.
As far as
decorating, you can go very fancy if you've had cake
decorating classes and know how to use a pastry bag and star
tip, a line tip and a frosting palette knife. You can also
do a fair job using the many types of decorating frosting in
a tube that come with screw-on tips that can do just as good
a job as the expensive kits.
The frosting
colors are pretty basic. Orange for the whole pumpkin, green
for the stem, yellow for the inside of the mouth, nose and
eyes and a little black for shadow detail.
You can either
use a star tip and cover the cake in stars until the orange
is all filled in. Do the same for the green stem. Pipe in
the black lines on the pumpkin and inside the mouth, nos and
eyes for shadowing.
You can also
use a knife or frosting spatula to cover the cake in the
same fashion as above. The difference is that there will be
no 3-D star pattern to the cake, it will have a flat finish
to it. Either way looks good, it just depends on how much
time you want to put into decorating it.

Jack O' Lantern Cake
Pan
This Jack-O-Lantern Pan from Wilton is the perfect
Halloween pan. We use this one every year! It comes
with instructions on decorating and baking. It's a larger
cake pan and may take more then one box of cake mix
depending on what kind that you use.
You can see

That's basically what it will turn out like if you use a
star tip dot method to frost the cake.
 Medium Size
Jack O' Lantern Pan
This 9 inch cake pan is another type of Wilton cake pan that we've
found at places like Wal-mart. They are inexpensive but well
made and work just fine for this cake.
Decorate as
described above and you have a smaller Jack O' Lantern cake.
This size takes one box of cake mix and is good for a
smaller family or kids party.
We've also
found, by Wilton, single mini cake pans in a variety of
Halloween designs including a Jack O' Lantern. No matter
what size pan you use, a Jack O' Lantern cake will brighten
up your Halloween party like a lit Jack at your front door!
