GINGERBREAD "CORPSE" COOKIES
Who
wouldn't love biting the head off a little gingerbread man? It's a perfect cookie for
Halloween trick-or-treaters or for anytime you feel like being an
aggressive eater!
You can buy
boxed gingerbread cookie mix and use that if you are short
on time. Just follow the direction on the box and use a
cookie cutter shaped like a little "Gingerbread man", which
you can find at most places that sell baking supplies. They
come in all sizes so how big you make the cookie is up to
you. Just follow our decorating advice, below, to finish off
your Gingerbread Corpses. You'll have all the enjoyment and
more time for other baking!
If you'd like
to bake from scratch, try the recipe below. It does have to
sit in the refrigerator for 24 hours before use, so make a
day in advance.

1 tablespoon baking powder
1 tablespoon ground ginger
1 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1 teaspoon ground cloves
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 cup shortening, melted and cooled slightly
1 cup molasses, warmed slightly
1 cup packed brown sugar
1/2 cup water
1 egg
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

warm water and add to egg mixture. Beat until smooth.
Slowly add flour, spices and salt. Mix until well blended. Cover and chill for 24 hours.

cookie sheets. Roll out dough to a thickness of 1/4 inch
on a floured surface. Cut out gingerbread men using cookie cutters and place 2 inches
apart on cookie sheets. Use raisins to make eyes, noses and
buttons. Bake 10 to 12 minutes. Let cool on wire racks.
DECORATING IDEAS
You can make your own icing or use store
bought to decorate. Wilton, the company that
makes so many cool Halloween cake pans and other items now
makes tube frosting in Halloween colors such as orange,
black, purple and bright green. They also make piping icing
and flooding icing that makes decorating cookies a snap and
they look professional! You can find out info on making your
own Royal icing here.
To decorate
these Gingerbread Corpses
use icing to make "X"s for
the eyes, add bloody gashes and
whatever else
you'd like to make them look "dead".
