Without a
doubt, there are more vampire movies than any other in the
horror genre, literally hundreds of films have been
produced over the years. Below are our
thirteen favorite vampire movies you can really sink
your teeth into during the
Halloween season.
Fright Night
Meet Jerry Dandridge. He's sweet, sexy, and he likes to
sleep in late. You might think he's the perfect neighbor.
But before inviting Jerry in for a nightcap, there's just
one thing you should know. Jerry prefers his drinks warm,
red and straight from the jugular! Only 17-year-old Charley
Brewster knows Jerry's bloodcurdling secret. When Charley
can't get anybody to believe him, he turns to TV horror host
Peter Vincent, who used to be the "Great Vampire Killer" of
the movies. Can these mortals save Charley and his
sweetheart Amy from the wrathful bloodsucker's toothy
embrace? If you love being scared, Fright Night...will give
you the nightmare of your life. 1985
Fright Night II
Three years after killing the vampire in the original,
Charlie has started to believe it was all his imagination
and starts to forget that vampires truly exist - until four
strangers lead by Regina, a noted actress, arrives at Peter
Vincent's house and starts to have an unhealthy interest in
Charlie, Peter and Charlie's new girlfriend Alex. It becomes
clear that Regina is Jerry's (the vampire in the original
film) sister and she is determined to get revenge on the
friends and plans to turn Charlie into a vampire - so that
he can face his punishment for all eternity. 1989
Dracula 2000
When a team of techno-savvy thieves break into a
high-security vault, they don't discover priceless artwork,
but a crypt that hasn't been opened for 100 years! Suddenly,
the ancient terror of Dracula is unleashed in the chaotic
21st century. Free to follow his pursuits of seduction and
power, Dracula's first destination is America and the exotic
city of New Orleans, a place where he feels right at home.
Not far behind, however, is a young vampire hunter from
London, determined to save a young woman with whom Dracula
shares his dark legacy! This movie has a great twist in the
true identity of Dracula. 2000
Near Dark
Out along the isolated highways of the Midwest they
wait...the undead, eager for the blood of their next victim.
Kathryn Bigelow's grisly horror tale follows a young man who
gets drawn into a clan of outlaw vampires and is soon faced
with a dangerous decision: Destroy them or become
indoctrinated into their ranks. 1987
30 Days of Night
In a small Alaskan town, thirty days of night is a natural
phenomenon. Very few outsiders visit, until a band of
bloodthirsty, deathly pale vampires mark their arrival by
savagely attacking sled dogs. But soon they find there are
much more satisfying thirst-quenchers about: human beings.
One by one, the townspeople succumb to a living nightmare,
but a small group survives - at least for now. The vampires
use the dark to their advantage, and surviving this cold
hell is a game of cat and mouse - and screams. 2007
John
Carpenter's Vampires
Adapted from the novel Vampire$ by John Steakley, the film
stars James Woods as Jack Crow, leader of a Catholic
Church-sanctioned team of vampire hunters. The plot is
centered on Crow's efforts to prevent a centuries-old cross
from falling into the hands of Valek, a master vampire. 2008
The Night
Stalker
Wisecracking reporter Carl Kolchak has a nose for
the supernatural, a trait that leaves his editor exasperated and the police less than amused. When
he insists that a late-night Las Vegas serial killer is a modern-day vampire, he's practically run
out of town by the local authorities. Naturally, he stalks
the vampire himself, an unlikely Van Helsing armed with a
silver cross, a wooden stake, and his ever-present tape
recorder and flashbulb camera. The quirky mix of horror and
humor turned The Night Stalker into a ratings sensation that
inspired a sequel "The Night Strangler" and a short-lived TV
series Kolchak: The Night Stalker. 1972
Interview
with a Vampire
The undead are among us and livelier than ever when Tom
Cruise, Brad Pitt and a talented group of young-bloods star
in Interview with the Vampire, the spellbinding screen
adaptation of Anne Rice's best seller. Cruise stylishly
plays the supremely evil and charismatic vampire Lestat.
Pitt is Louis, lured by Lestat into the immortality of the
damned, then tormented by an unalterable fact of vampire
life: to survive, he must kill. Interview with the Vampire
offers enough thrills, shocks and fiendish fun to last a
lifetime...and beyond. 2000
The Blade
Trilogy
Based on the comic book of the same name,
Wesley Snipes plays a half-mortal, half-immortal bent on ridding the
world of all vampires.
Blade
- A half-mortal, half-immortal bent on avenging his
mother's death and destined to rid the earth of a race
of vampires. Meanwhile, the modern-day technologically
advanced vamps he's targeted are in pursuit of his
special blood type needed to summon an evil god who
plays a key role in their plan to execute the human
race.
Blade
II - Following a trail of blood that leads to
Prague, Blade (aka the Daywalker) slays a legion of
bloodsuckers in the search for his abducted mentor,
Whistler. Soon Blade reluctantly joins forces with a
band of skilled vampiric warriors called the Bloodpack
to hunt down an even deadlier enemy--the monstrous
Reapers, who prey on vampires and humans alike,
infecting them with an incurable virus. In addition to
battling these relentless new foes, Blade must deal with
situations brought about by the Bloodpack's tenuous
alliance --in particular, his attraction to the lovely
Nyssa and his rivalry with the brutish Reinhardt. 2002
Blade
Trinity - Here, a new challenge faces the
preternaturally sharp hunter, Blade, when a group of
vamps resurrect the long-slumbering "Drake" the ancient
and all-powerful Count Dracula--and Blade meets the
ultimate opponent. Teaming up with the Nightstalkers, a
group of similar-minded hunters led by tough slayer
Abigail and her partner Hannibal, Blade is ready for
battle. However, Drake's handlers are an unruly bunch
themselves, with sassy goth wench Danica doing her best
to make things as unpleasant as possible. What's more,
while Danica's vamp team is harvesting homeless people
for their blood, the Nightstalkers' scientist creates a
potion that can not only kill Drake, but can take the
entire bloodsucking race with him. 2004
Let Me In
In bleak New Mexico, a forteen year old, lonely, bullied
boy, Owen, forms a unique bond with his mysterious new
neighbor, Abby. Trapped in the body of a twelve year old
child, Abby is forced to hide a horrific secret of
bloodthirsty survival. But in a world of both tenderness and
terror, how can you invite in the one friend who may unleash
the ultimate nightmare? 2010
Bram Stoker's
Dracula
Gary Oldman and Winona Ryder star as Count Dracula and Mina
Murray. She's betrothed to
another man; he can't kick the habit of feeding off the
living. Anthony Hopkins plays Van Helsing, the vampire
slayer, with tongue firmly in cheek. Tom Waits is great fun
as Renfield, the hapless slave of Dracula who craves the
blood of insects and cats. Sadie Frost is a sexy Lucy
Westenra. And poor Keanu Reeves, as Jonathan Harker, has the
misfortune to be seduced by Dracula's three half-naked
wives. There's a little bit of everything in this version of
Dracula: gore, high-speed horseback chases, passion and
longing. 1992
The Night
Flier
From Stephen King, comes a new tale of terror. What flies by
night in a dark winged Cessna, lands at secluded airports
and brutally murders local residents? For one reporter, the
story of a lifetime may be his last. 1998
Dark Shadows
From the wonderfully warped imagination of Tim Burton comes
the story of Barnabas Collins, a dashing
aristocrat who is turned into a vampire by a jilted lover
and entombed for two centuries. Emerging from his coffin
into the world of the seventies, he returns to his once-majestic
home, only to the few dysfunctional descendants of the
Collins family who remain. Determined to return his family
name to its former glory, Barnabas is thwarted at every turn
by his former lover - the seductive witch Angelique. 2012
