HALLOWEEN TRANSFER SHIRTS |
|
Everyone
loves to dress up for Halloween, but what about all those
days, all month long, leading up to Halloween night? It's
nice to show your Halloween spirit by wearing Halloween
themed shirts whenever you can.
You can
use computer transfer paper for your home printer and print out designs
using photos or graphics. Remember, most Halloween pictures that
you see on-line are copyrighted material so stick with using
family Halloween photos for your t-shirt transfers or
graphics that you know are freeware.
Transfer
paper used to come in one type, for use on light colored
shirts. You can now find transfer paper to use on dark
fabrics. It works well on black or gray shirts. You can also
use it for any other colored shirt and the up-side is this
type of transfer paper seems to last longer and hold the
color better than the standard transfer paper.
Using a Transfer:
Here is an easy step
by step shirt design. You'll need your favorite Halloween photo, your
computer, printer and transfer paper. You'll need a shirt,
t-shirts work best but you can use any type of shirt in
accordance with the manufacturers recommendations. To print, follow the transfer paper manufactures directions.
Also see them for washing instructions.
Choose a shirt that you like, be it a long
sleeved t-shirt, sweat shirt or short sleeved
t-shirt. Cotton works best. Black, gray, orange
or purple are all good colors for Halloween.
Wash it and dry it, do not use
fabric softener on it since it will make it
harder for the transfer to adhere properly.
Using your computer, find a photo or graphic
that you like. Open it up in a paint program
like PhotoShop and size it according to the
transfer paper size.
We used a graphic of an old Halloween postcard.
The paper comes in 8 1/2" by 11". The dimensions
used were 5 1/2" by 9" for our transfer. Print
on plain paper first to see how it will look. If
you like the color, print your transfer.
You'll need a flat surface to iron it on. Some
papers recommend NOT using an ironing board so
you'll need a table or counter top. Just make
sure that you protect it from heat by laying
down a towel or newspaper first.
Set iron at recommended heat and position the
transfer on your shirt. Iron on transfer using
recommended method.
Now, after the shirt cools, you can embellish
the transfer using fabric paint. Make a border
around the picture, add Halloween symbols,
buttons, silk autumn leaves, what ever you want.
Or just leave it plain, although where's the fun
in that??!
Your finished
shirt is now ready to be worn all season long!
Let everyone know what kind of Halloween spirit
you have!
